Reccomended Tackle List for Long Range Trips

1- Lt. Action (bait) rod & reel combo = to a Garcia 5000 with approx. 20 lb. line
3-5 Sabiki rigs with 3-5 hooks on each
3 small hook size
2 med hook size
1- 5 ½ '-6'
Med. Action rod (Jig fishing) 30-50 lb. class with a reel = to a 4/0 PENN or a TLD 25 or 30 (prefer 2 speed) spooled with at least 50 lb. line Mono or Braided
Your choice
1- 5 ½ '-6'
Med.- Heavy action rod (bottom/ chunk fishing) 50-80 class with a reel= to a 6/0 PENN or TLD 50, (preferably a 2 speed) spooled with 80-100 lb line mono or braided

1- 6'-6 ½'
Med.-Heavy action spinning rod/ bait casting rod (throwing top waters) with reel= to a PENN 9500 SS spooled with 65-80 lb braid (power pro) or Trinidad 30 w or equivalent

Terminal Tackle

1- Small spool leader material clear mono or fluorocarbon 60-80# test
2-Dzn. 130# class swivels
2-Dzn. Mustad or= hooks (straight & circle) assorted sizes (#8-#12)
Live bait (black or dark in color)

6-12 Tuna jigs such as diamond jigs, knife jigs, butterfly jigs, ect…
Assorted sizes 4oz.- 12oz. (some of these do not come with hooks)
6-12 Top water jigs 4"-8" such as the Tuna Hunter or Tsunami assorted colors


6-12 Swim baits 4"-6" assorted colors

2-4 Flying fish jigs (Yummies) rigged

Make sure all your jigs have good sturdy hooks and split rings. Some of the topwater jigs are light on hook strength and split ring size.

We will furnish leaders, hooks, and sinkers for your bottom fishing needs.

What should you bring on a long range trip?
Here's a short list of things that would be helpful on a long range trip:
o Bed roll for your bunk
o Toiletries (soap, shampoo…..)
o Two 54 quart ice chest or one 120 quart ice chest (all ice chest will remain on top deck of Big E for the duration of the trip)

o Your own food and drinks for the duration of the trip (No glass containers, alcoholic beverages are allowed)
o Tackle (see list)
o Pack your clothes accordingly for the weather

Extra Items to consider
o Sun-block
o Sunglasses
o Hat (of some sort)
o precautions for seasickness (i.e. ginger, motion sickness medicine)
o towel (1 or 2)
o Small hand towels
o Gloves
